Welcome to the UVSC herd. Each of our horses is chosen based on their ability to give beginner riders a safe trail ride. In addition they should also like interacting with students and be calm enough to let inexperienced students and adults work around them.

Aries
A 1991 Grade gelding. Called the “cow horse” due to his piebald coloring, he came to UVSC in April 2010 on a lease from Pond Hill Ranch in Castleton, VT. His curious and friendly temperament made him an important member of the herd and in the fall of 2010 he was purchased by UVSC. He is the quirky horse in the barn who likes to nod his head while out on a ride and has a big head, narrow chest, and crooked nose but all his quirks are what make him loved by the students. Aries smaller size makes him less intimidating for even the most nervous riders.

Images Tuff Teddy
A 1997 APHA gelding. Teddy is here on a free lease from a local family that was looking to have a few less horses in their barn. They love Teddy dearly but also knew that he would be an amazing horse for our program…and they were right! He has a sweet personality and loves attention. Anybody who has never been on a horse has their first ride with Teddy since he can be trusted to give a nice even ride everytime. Many students continue to stay with Teddy even as their skills improve due to his consistent pace and friendliness. His orange mohawk is the best hairstyle in the barn!

Skippa Exceed
A 2003 registered Quarter Horse gelding. Known as Skippy around the barn, he is cute and friendly and well loved by students. Skippy has come to UVSC from a NH Hippotherapy program which means he has a wonderful temperment and is so consistent that a rider of any level can enjoy him. Skippy has three very smooth gaits and picks them up with the smallest of cues. He is the youngest in the herd but that does not keep him from bossing a few of the senior horses around and helping himself to the biggest pile of hay. Skippy loves to be fussed over and always has the smoothest coat due to all the grooming he enjoys!

See Tari Play
A 2006 registered Quarter Horse gelding whom we affectionately call Scooter. He came to UVSC as a free lease from his owner Meghan in Massachusetts. Scooter adds a lovely dash of color to our herd with his beautiful buckskin coloring. Scooter enjoys being as close as possible to his best friend Dolly; and obsessively licking mineral and salt blocks until they disappear in a matter of days. Students like riding Scooter because of his amazingly smooth trot, easy going temperament, and puppy dog personality.

Watch Doll Pine
A 2004 registered Foundation Quarter Horse mare. Dolly is alpha mare around the barn and enjoys spending time with her buddy Scooter. Dolly has been a broodmare for a breeding program in Connecticut and has also spent a lot of time as a competitive trail horse with her owner. This mare is a piece of cake to ride and definitely feels right at home in the woods as she is not afraid of anything that she encounters.

UVSC currently has a herd of two donkeys, Lily and Oliver. While they have been apart of the Becket Family of Services for the majority of their lives they are relatively new to the Equine Club. They are very important companions for our horses and our students. They are a mother and son and are both near 30 years old! If you are ever in need of a smile come and visit our longears!
Lily is a 30-something year old jenny. She is a champagne color and is about 12 hands tall. She has a very sweet personality and loves to stand and have right behind her ears scratched. Lily is a very calm donkey and students love to cuddle her!
Oliver is Lily’s son and is nearing 30 years old. He is a spotted gelding, about 12 hands tall, and has never met a piece of hay or apple that he did not like! Oliver is the more vocal donkey and will greet you with a very loud hee-haw to let you know he is ready for his next meal. He follows Lily everywhere but will be the first to greet a visitor if he thinks he can get a treat. He especially loves Ritz Crackers.
